Moldovan president to pay official visit to Council of Europe

Chisinau, 16 April /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu will pay an official visit to the Council of Europe (CoE), Strasbourg, on 19 April, the presidential press service has reported.
On this occasion, Maia Sandu will meet with CoE Secretary-General Marija Pejčinović Burić, PACE President Hendrik Daems, President of the European Court of Human Rights Robert Spano, Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic, President of CoE Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Leendert Verbeek, President of Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio and Vice-Governor of CoE Development Bank Carlo Monticelli.
In the dialogue with senior officials, Maia Sandu will address issues related to justice reform, the fight against high-level corruption, the development of an economic recovery program, cooperation with local public authorities and regional security. The head of state will also reiterate Moldova's commitment to meet the obligations assumed upon joining the CoE on building a viable rule of law.
The president will make joint press statements with PACE President Hendrik Daems.
Also, Sandu with Marija Pejčinović Burić will attend an official event on launching action plan of the Council of Europe for Moldova 2021-2024, setting cooperation priorities for next four years and aiming to support democratic reforms and implement CoE standards on democracy, rule of law and human rights.
One of the main moments of the visit will be a speech in the plenary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, at the invitation of the President of the Forum Hendrik Daems.
