Moldovan president meets PACE President in Strasbourg

Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu began her official visit to Strasbourg at the invitation of President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Hendrik Daems, the presidential press service has reported.
The officials approached the current political situation in the Republic of Moldova, challenges to democracy in our country, further steps to overcome the political crisis, as well as efforts we make to reduce and combat the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I am pleased to be in Strasbourg today, at the invitation of President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, to attend the opening of the PACE spring session. Mr. President Hendrik Daems, thank you for the warm welcome this morning, " Maia Sandu said.
They exchanged views on the situation of democratic institutions in Moldova, justice reform, our European integration agenda and the Transnistrian conflict settlement. "I noted that the main priority of my term as President is the fight against corruption and a genuine reform of the judiciary and I thanked him for the sustained support of the PACE for democratic transformations in the Republic of Moldova. I also thanked Mr. Daems for the invitation to participate in the opening of the PACE spring session and for the opportunity to address a message to the plenary of the Parliamentary Assembly ", said Maia Sandu.
Today, Maia Sandu pays an official visit to the Council of Europe to attend opening of the PACE spring session.
Also, the head of state will meet Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Gianni Buquicchio, President of the Venice Commission, Robert Spano, President of the European Court of Human Rights, Dunja Mijatovic, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Carlo Monticelli, Deputy Governor of the Council Development Bank Europe and Leendert Verbeek, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
Maia Sandu will give a speech in the plenary of the Parliamentary Assembly.
