Moldovan president meets head of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Council of Europe

Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/- On an official visit to Strasbourg, President Maia Sandu met today with President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CALRE) Leen Verbeek, and discussed promotion of local democracy in our country, the presidential press service has reported.
"Increasing the financial autonomy of local communities and strengthening the capacity of Moldovan city halls are prerequisites for development and modernization of the Republic of Moldova. The revised Roadmap for Local and Regional Democracy in the Republic of Moldova was submitted at the meeting. I will ensure that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova implement its provisions - as provided by the principles of collaboration with CALRE. I also noted with satisfaction that the new CoE Action Plan for Moldova provides for interventions to strengthen local autonomy ", Maia Sandu said.
The officials exchanged views on opportunity to strengthen the collaboration between CALRE and CALM, the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, which brings together most mayors of our country.
