Chisinau, 22 April /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs today adopted, in final reading, the introduction of interdictions and sanctions for the deliberate disconnection of consumers from power supply. A group of MPs of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) put forward a draft to this effect as legislative initiative.

The draft provides for the introduction of amendments to the Contravention Code, in order to sanction the disconnection of the installations used by consumers from power supply till the moment of expiration of 10 days; this period is calculated from the date of reception confirmed in written form of the notice on disconnection, sent following the non-payment of the current electric energy, issued and dispatched by the electric energy provider to the consumer.

The fine will from 10 (500 lei) to 25 conventional units (1,250 lei), imposed to the private person and from 25 (1,250 lei) to 50 conventional units (2,500 lei), imposed to the decision-maker. The fine against a legal entity will be from 50 (2,500 lei) to 100 conventional units (5,000 lei).

According to the authors, the introduction of interdictions is necessary including for the adjusting of the legal framework. ‘’Moreover, the present draft is needed, in order to back the consumers of electric energy hit by the current crisis triggered by COVID-19, which has already generated a decrease in incomes or the connection to the power supply implies additional costs,’’ reads the informative note to the draft.
