Moldova marks Librarian's Day

Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/- Today Moldova celebrates Librarian's Day and World Book and Copyright Day.

The head of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova, Elena Pintilei, said that Librarian's Day is a good opportunity to congratulate colleagues, who are permanent suppliers of innovative ideas, which they successfully use in daily activities to be particularly important to the communities that serve them. "We wish them good health, prosperity, beautiful achievements and new performances achieved in all activities undertaken to promote the Cult of Books and Reading, guiding the road to Knowledge," said Elena Pintilei.

Librarian's Day in the Republic of Moldova has been celebrated since 2000, when the country's president signed a decree on the establishment of the professional holiday - Librarian's Day on October 5. In 2010, at the request of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova, an amendment was made to the decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova on establishing the day of homage. As an argument, it was argued that in many countries around the world the profession of librarian is celebrated on April 23, World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO in 1995.

The Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova (ABRM) was established in 1991. On June 10, 1992, the Government Decision “On the registration of the Statute of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova” was issued. 

ABRM heads were: Claudia Balaban (1991-1995), Alexe Rău (1996-2000), Lidia Kulikovski (2000-2004), Ludmila Costin (2004 - 2012), Mariana Harjevschi (2012-2019). Currently, ABRM brings together over 1700 individual and collective members, representing the entire national system of information-library institutions: national, specialized, public, university, high school, school, college libraries.
