Moldova received batch of 250,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine from China

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- Moldova received a batch of 250 thousand doses of coronavirus vaccine and complementary materials from China today. Attending the event were Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Chinese Ambassador to Moldova Zhang Yinghong.

The batch includes 150 thousand doses of vaccine offered by the Chinese authorities free of charge and 100 thousand doses procured from budgetary funds of the Republic of Moldova, as well as complementary materials.

According to the parliament's press service, the vaccines were delivered following a request of the speaker to the head of the standing committee of the National Assembly of People's Representatives from All over China, Li Zhanshu, on 4 March.

Greceanii thanked the Chinese people for receptivity and promptness. 

Zhang Yinghong voiced hope that the vaccines and complementary materials will contribute to achieving the goals of Moldova in the fight against the pandemic.

"Currently, there is a huge gap in the global supply of vaccines. As a responsible country, China will further meet commitments to promote the equitable distribution of vaccines worldwide and will continue to contribute to the availability of vaccines in developing countries, "he said.

"China has ensured the delivery of this batch of vaccines to the Republic of Moldova as soon as possible, which once again testifies to the deep friendship between the two countries and nations. China will further support Moldova in the fight against the pandemic ", he said.

President Maia Sandu welcomed vaccine donation from China. "It is encouraging that our country receives more batches of vaccine during this period, because this allows us to offer more vaccination options to citizens. We are grateful to China for this significant donation, " Maia Sandu said.

Currently, six Chinese vaccines are included in the WHO list for evaluation and approval. The vaccines received today by Moldova were produced by two different Chinese companies, of which 150 thousand donated doses are made by Sinopharm company, and another 100 thousand doses purchased from the budget are made by Sinovac company. The World Health Organization confirmed that the effectiveness of both types of vaccine meets the standards of the organization.

At present, Chinese vaccines are used in dozens of countries around the world, including Hungary, Turkey, Ukraine, Brazil etc. At the same time, China decided to provide the COVAX platform with 10 million doses of vaccine, which is considered safe and effective by WHO experts.
