Supreme Security Council proposes immediate measures to remedy situation at Railway of Moldova

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - The situation at the Railway of Moldova (CFM) was the main subject discussed at the Supreme Security Council (CSS) today, summoned by President Maia Sandu. ‘’This is an urgent and important subject, which hits thousands of people and the country’s economy,’’ said the head of state while tackling this issue at CSS, the presidential press service has reported.    

According to the Moldovan president, the information unveiled at the today’s CSS meeting shows that the situation is dramatic: the CMF leadership consciously led the enterprise on the way of bankruptcy, through corruption schemes, fake procurements, actions of embezzlement and purloining in particularly large amounts. The corruption and the defective management of the enterprise represents, at the same time, the reason for the non-payment of salaries to the employees.   

 „While a group of thieves have been stealing the CFM enterprise for years, almost 7,000 people have not received their salaries for more than four months. On all this period, when the people got not to have means to maintain their families, the files opened have no prospects, while some people’s pockets are filled with money at the expense of the citizens,’’ President Maia Sandu said in the context of the discussion on the Railway of Moldova.   

To remedy the situation at CFM, the CSS members agreed on several things which must urgently be undertaken and namely:   

The Public Property Agency (APP) should submit to CSS, in a ten-day period, an operative plan for remedying the situation at the enterprise, which is to provide inclusively for actions of rescheduling the debts and prioritizing the payment of salaries.  

The government should urgently identify sources for the payment of the employees’ salaries.  

The government (APP) should suspend the labour contracts with the CFM administration, especially with the CFM acting director, Adrian Onceanu, proceeding from the bad work and defective management from the last period. The Public Property Agency should organize a transparent and correct contest for the selection of the new CFM director general.  The National Anticorruption Centre (CAN) should take note and undertake the measures necessary for investigating the work of the former and current CFM leadership in terms of corruption; the Prosecutor General’s Office should speed up the criminal prosecution within the files opened on these frauds.    

CFM must immediately implement the recommendations of the Court of Accounts, made back under the decision from 17 December 2020.
