Italian investors invited to learn about supply of Moldovan farmers

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Agro-food products from Moldova, exported to more than 70 countries, might reach markets and shops from Italy in much larger quantities. This after, during an online webinar, investment opportunities from Moldova, as well as the advantages brought by investments of the farming sector were presented to members of the Italian General Confederation of Agriculture.
Over 90 Italian entrepreneurs and investors, members of the General Confederation of Agriculture of Italy (Confagricoltura) learned about opportunities of investments in the agricultural sector in Moldova, especially in the fields of fruits and vegetables, oleaginous plants, cereals, production of sugar, animal husbandry sector, vine-growing and wine-making sector and the one of ecologically safe products.
At the event, the director general of the Investments Agency, Rodica Verbeniuc, informed the Italian business people about the quality of the Moldovan products and the success achieved by Moldova in terms of wines’ export.
„At present, when the information technology is a sector which places us in international rankings and which for the first time ever, exceeded the export of wines by over 400 million lei, can always provide innovation and revolutionary infrastructure in the national agriculture. The Moldovan authorities do their utmost to bring this sector closer to the modernization process, as well as the turning to account of the Eco product in Europe as much as possible. Farmers try to switch to the technique of modern orchards, by use of agricultural drones, fertigation, unique systems of forming the fruit-tree’s skeleton(Drapeau Marchand), as well as new techniques in the irrigation systems,’’ Verbeniuc said.
For their part, the Confagricoltura representatives showed interest in the investment bid of Moldova. They specified that they wanted to visit Moldova as soon as possible, in order to directly understand the potential and possibilities of cooperation.
Some statistics shows that Italy is the second biggest commercial partner of Moldova in 2018-2019, with a 7-per cent increase in exports recorded in 2014-2018 (309.6 million dollars) and a new record was established in 2018, against 243.4 million dollars in 2014. Presently, the best exported farming products to Italy are the wheat, sunflower oil, nuts, plums, wines from fresh grapes, dry fruits and natural honey. In 2018, 40.3 per cent of the overall Moldovan export went to the market of Italy.
