Government commission for equality between women and men convened after 4-year break

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/- Under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Olga Cebotari, a meeting of the governmental commission for equality between women and men was convened today after a 4-year break, the Office for Reintegration Policy has reported.
The event was held in videoconference format and brought together representatives of central public authorities and civil society.
Special guests of the event were Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Anna Lyberg and UN Women Representative in Moldova Dominika Stojanoska.
The event focused on the institutional mechanism for ensuring equality between women and men, addressing the main challenges in ensuring the functioning of the mechanism, the role and basic responsibilities of the commission, as well as the participants exchanged views on actions to strengthen the institutional mechanism for ensuring equality between women and men.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration stressed the importance of developing gender policies in all segments of socio-economic life in the Republic of Moldova, including from the perspective of promoting women in the security and defense sector.
The official voiced willingness to support the processes within the next stage of implementation of programmatic documents in the field: Strategy for ensuring equality between women and men in the Republic of Moldova and the National Program for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
Olga Cebotari thanked the government of Sweden for supporting over the years the gender dimension and the promotion of human rights, in particular in the context of the priorities of the Swedish Presidency-in-Office of the OSCE.
Olga Cebotari voiced confidence that the strategic goals in the national programs can be met only through joint efforts.
Also, the participants assessed proposals to optimize the work of the commission. In this context, it was decided that the central public authorities will ensure the consolidation of the platforms of the coordinating groups on the gender field, set in accordance with Article 19 of Law No5 of 09.02.2006 on ensuring equal opportunities between women and men, as well as revitalizing the activity of the groups per sector.
As a result, the procedure of analysis and elaboration of the normative framework on institutional mechanism and the elaboration of modifications to improve its functionality will be initiated.
