Chisinau, 2 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Holy Easter, regarded as the greatest holiday of the Christianity, which means the Resurrection of the Lord.
On this occasion, religious services were officiated in the churches of Moldova and thousands of Moldovans went to churches to take the Holy Fire. The Holy Fire from Jerusalem was carried to Moldova this year as well. This time, the Fire was brought by Bishop of Ungheni and Nisporeni of the Metropolitan See of Moldova, Right Reverend Petru.
In his pastoral letter, Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Most Right Reverend Vladimir said that, on this night, the Christians celebrated the glorious Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ; therefore, the Tradition of the Church calls it ‘’ a special and holy day; …the Holiday of holidays, during which we bless Christ for ages and ages.’’ Thus, this is the great Day of the Lord, the Easter of the Lord, which the Christians mark not only annually, but also weekly on each first day of the week – Sunday.
The Easter Holidays are marked during three days. The Holy Easter is preceded by a long period of the Lent and on the last week of the Lent, called the Passion Week, the Entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem is celebrated.
On the eve of the Easter, the Christians prepare their baskets with food products and carry them to churches be blessed. At the same time, believers clink together red eggs, which signify the new life received through the Blood of the Savior.
In 2022, the Orthodox Christian Easter will be marked on 24 April and in 2023 – on 16 April.
