New consignment of vaccines donated by Romania brought to Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/ - A new consignment of 100,800 doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine, produced by the AstraZeneca company, was brought from Romania to Moldova today. The donation is provided for free and supplements the support package announced by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, during a working visit to Chisinau in December 2020.  

The government of Romania ruled to continue the providing of the additional humanitarian assistance to those 204,000 vaccines supplied already to Moldova. At the same time, the vaccine doses are meant for the National Public Health Agency of Moldova and are part of the Romanian Health Ministry’s reserve.   

„Romania has always been by the side of Moldova’s citizens, providing assistance each time, if necessary, in the spirit of the special relation based on the community of language, history and culture, and established on the cooperation within the strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration,’’ reads a press release by Romania’s Embassy in Moldova.     

On this occasion, President Maia Sandu once again urged all citizens to be vaccinated, in order to protect the life and health and to return to normal as soon as possible. ‘’Now we have enough doses to vaccinate as many people as possible on an as short period as possible. Thank you, Romania! Thank you, Mr. President Klaus Iohannis, Mr. Prime Minister Florin Citu,’’ Maia Sandu said in her message.   

So far, Romania has supplied four consignments of anti-Covid vaccines: on 27 February – 21,600 doses, on 27 March – 50,400 doses; on 17 April – 132,000 doses and on 7 May – 100,800 doses, - 304,800 doses in all. The carriage of the donation of vaccines on behalf of Romania is provided through the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism and is part of the Team Europe initiative.
