Mihail Kogălniceanu National Literature Museum has new headquarters

Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Mihail Kogalniceanu National Literature Museum (MNL) has lately inaugurated a new headquarters, recently received from the general department for the management of government’s buildings at the State Chancellery. The hew headquarters is placed on the Alexei Mateevici Street, in the G. Pronin cottage.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, MNL director Maria Sleahtitchi, said that the G. Pronin cottage was an architecture and history monument of national significance, introduced in the register of the history and culture monuments of the Chisinau city.
According to the Sleahtitchi, the cottage was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century for the queen of Serbia, Natalia Obrenovici, born Cheşco, who was born in Chisinau, by the first-category merchant from Chisinau, Pronin. In the inter-war years, this cottage was the headquarters of the Royal Foundation, in which the Romanian Sociology Institute, Bessarabia branch, was placed.
The head of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Arcadie Suceveanu, said that the getting of the hew headquarters by the Mihail Kogalniceanu National Literature Museum was a victory for Moldova’s culture and especially for a museum research institution.
In the context of the events dedicated to the International Museum Day, the Mihail Kogalniceanu National Literature Museum inaugurated a street exhibition, Writers in the Chronicle of Union.
The Alexei Mateevici Street from Chisinau is full of history; it is a place of Moldova’s literary and cultural memory: more writers lived here; the building of the National Council of Moldova, where the Union with Romania was voted in 1918, was placed here; the headquarters of the Writers Union of the Soviet Moldova was situated here for a while. .
The exhibition will be open till 21 July.
