Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - The next 5+2 format meeting for the Transnistrian conflict settlement will take place in Chisinau and Tiraspol.

At a today’s news conference, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for Transnistrian on behalf of Sweden Settlement Thomas Mayr-Harting said that the next meeting in the 5+2 format would held in Chisinau and Tiraspol in several weeks.

According to the OSCE official, the visit he paid to Moldova was one for preparing this meeting.

In the context, Thomas Mayr-Harting highlighted the good cooperation between the two banks of Dniester in combating the coronavirus pandemic and welcomed the Chisinau officials’ gesture to distribute anti-Covid vaccine to the Transnistrian authorities.

Referring to the participation of the Moldovan citizens with residence in the Transnistrian region in the 11 July snap parliamentary elections, the OSCE officials said they ‘’have right to take part in the voting.’’ Yet, he showed reticence as to the organized participation in the voting process. ‘The Moldovan citizens with residence in the Transnistrian region have right to participate in the voting. For this, it is necessary to ensure the free movement between the two banks of Dniester. We keep a close eye on the phenomena of organized participation in the voting,’’ Mayr-Harting said.

The 5+2 negotiations are held with the participation of representatives of the sides, mediators and observers – Moldova, Transnistrian region, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, United States and European Union.

The goal of the 5+2 talks is to work out the principles of the comprehensive settlement, based on Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, with special status for the Transnistrian region as part of Moldova.

Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for Transnistrian on behalf of Sweden Settlement Thomas Mayr-Harting paid a visit to Moldova on 23-25 May, in order to consider the present situation in the Transnistrian settlement process and, along with the sides, identify concrete steps for the advancement of the settlement.
