Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - The new provisions of the Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods under Cover of TIR Carnets today entered into force internationally. They provide for the digitalization of the procedure on the use of the TIR carnets.
On this occasion, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organized an official ceremony eTIR, with the participation of representatives of the customs administrations, more international organizations, agencies or auto transport associations from over 40 states, among which Moldova too.
„The annex No 11 of the TIR Convention, which entered into force today, provides for the digitalization of the procedures of use of TIR carnets. The eTIR system implies introduction of data into a single information system, which will be automatically distributed to the customs administrations involved in operations of transit and customs clearance of goods. This way of introducing and using electronic data in real time will minimize the time of crossing the border and will facilitate the international commerce. At the same time, the preliminary presentation of data on transactions by the customs authorities will help optimize the risks’ management and will tighten the security of the exchange of data between the entities involved,’’ Moldova’s Customs Service said.
In Moldova, the eTIR project is developed with the support of UNECE and the Programme for Structural Reforms in Moldova of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Presently, 77 countries participate in the TIR Convention, among which the member states of the European Union, Eastern Europe, most states from the Central Asia, North Africa and Middle East. Annually, 35,000 economic operators of international level are authorized to use the TIR system, which carries out about 3 million transports with the use of TIR carnets.
