Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/- The first strawberry stolons of high biological qualities and free of viruses and diseases, produced in the computerized greenhouse of the Berries Group cooperative in Blindești village, Ungheni district, demonstrated a catch degree of over 98 percent. The greenhouse was installed with the support of the project of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) High Value Agriculture in Moldova (APM).
"The planting material, produced in the computerized greenhouse, was caught in a proportion of almost 100%, which cannot be obtained in the case of refrigerated stolons, imported by strawberry producers, which have a degree of grip of only 80 percent. Last year was the first year of testing and we obtained first category planting material, due to the computerized control system of humidity, air temperature etc.", representatives of the cooperative said.
The total investment in the installation and endowment of the new construction was about three million lei, of which 1.7 million were provided by USAID / APM.
The nursery currently produces high quality planting material from certified plants purchased from European producers. One of the varieties multiplied in 2020 is Marmolada. It is under testing and will be proposed for certification and setting out in the Catalog of Plant Varieties of the Republic of Moldova, according to USAID / APM.
At present, about two thousand hectares of strawberries are planted in the Republic of Moldova, and the area reserved for this crop is expanding very quickly. According to the production technology, strawberry plantations must be renewed every 2-3 years.
As a rule, the cost of procuring seedlings is about 40 percent of the investment required to set up an open field strawberry plantation.
