Chisinau, 28 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Metropolitan See of Chisinau and All Moldova has spoken out for the anti-COVID vaccination. The Metropolitan See noted that ‘’the decision is personal and each believer has right to take this decision in consultation with the physician.’’
„The position of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, which values the medical science and its benefits, has always been favourable to vaccination, yet highlighting the essential need of the rigorous observance of the ethic principles: written consent of the person, clear-cut description of the benefits and risks, assuming concrete responsibility in case the immunization produces adverse effects on the health condition of the person vaccinated,’’ reads a press release issued by the Metropolitan See.
According to the quoted source, the Church delimits the subject of vaccination from the theological and spiritual field, describing it as specific for the medical sciences’ sector.
“The Metropolitan See welcomes the news on the vaccination campaign, which might diminish and cease the current pandemic; yet, the Church cannot give its opinion on issues dealing strictly with the medical field. Especially in case of a recent vaccine, which has not been used before and about which specialists in the sector are speaking themselves in the gradual way or differently,’’ the press release also reads.
The Church continues to draw believers’ attention to the importance of observing the health measures demanded by the authorities, as the pandemic further represents a threat.
