Chisinau, 4 June /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with the members of the European Commission’s Delegation, led by Deputy Director-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Katariná Mathernová. The EU official presented the plan on economic recovery for Moldova, elaborated by the European Union, with a financing of 600 million euros, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The financial means are to be provided to Moldova during three years and are meant to support the recovery of the national economy through five key sectors: backing in the management of public money; support of small- and medium-sized enterprises, including the facilitation of the export to the EU market and development of rural communities; development of infrastructure, including the continuing of projects on the inter-connection of the electro-energy systems with the ones from Romania; investments in education and justice reform; combating corruption and strengthening the capacities of the state’s institutions to this end. At the same time, the European officials said that Moldova was the first state among the Eastern Partnership countries to benefit from such a plan on economic recovery on behalf of EU.
The acting PM highly appreciated the support provided to Moldova by the European Union, noting that this was a strong signal of solidarity with Moldova, which has no other option but the European integration. ‘’This plan represents a solid support, aimed at improving the living standards of our citizens. Priority represents the actions to reform the justice and turn to good account the investments in infrastructure. I hope that Moldova will have capacities to start the plan immediately after the holding of the snap parliamentary elections and swearing in office of a functional government,’’ Aureliu Ciocoi said.
The acting prime minister also stressed the importance of the assistance provided by EU to overcome the pandemic crisis, through the supply of protection equipment, medical equipment and anti-Covid vaccines to Moldova.
In another context, the officials discussed preparations for the elections due on 11 July 2021 and the need to open enough polling stations abroad. The PM said that ‘’Moldova’s government will carry out all necessary actions for the good organization and holding of a free, transparent and democratic ballot.’’
