Moldovan president asks electoral body to revise decision on opposing opening more polling stations abroad

Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has summoned the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to revise its decision on opposing the opening of more polling stations abroad, the presidential press service has reported.

„The today’s decision by the Central Electoral Commission to oppose the opening of enough polling stations in the Diaspora is an insult against hundreds of thousands of citizens who want to vote and a defiant violation of the law. Dodon’s majority from CEC again acted against the people and infringed the legal criteria which stay at the basis of the establishment of the number of polling stations abroad,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

According to the head of state, the queues at the presidential elections, the insufficiency of ballot papers, the large number of preliminary registrations clearly showed the need to increase the number of polling stations abroad.

„I summon the CEC to immediately revise its decision – to observe the law and ensure the right to vote. The attempt to block the people’s voting and to save the skin of the thieves Dodon-Plahotniuc-Shor will not succeed,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.
