Well-known Moldovan dancer would have turned 90

Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - Dancer, choreographer soloist of the Joc Ensemble of Folk Dances, People’s Artist Ion Furnica would have turned 90 today.
Ion Furnica was born on in the Manta village, southern Cahul county, on 9 June 1931. During 1949-1972, he was soloist of Joc Ensemble, where he distinguished himself by dances and choreographic sketches.
After 1972, Furnica continued his work as master of collectives of young dancers, such as: Ciocarlia Ensemble from the Trade Unions Palace, Tinerețea from the Moldovan Technical University, Miorita of the State Agrarian University and the Chisinau-based Children’s Creation Centre. He also acted as teacher of choreography at the Gheorghe Asachi lyceum during ten years.
Ion Furnica danced in Moldova, Romania, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Hungary, Chile, Cuba, etc. He was laureate of the World Festival of Youth and Students from Bucharest (1953) and the one from Moscow (1957). In 1960, Furnica was awarded the honorific title of People’s Artist and in 1972 – the State Prize of the USSR.
Ion Furnica died on 28 July 2015.
