Moldovan president promulgates law on legal profession

Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu promulgated the amendments to the law on legal profession, the presidential press service has reported.

„I have taken this decision, after last week I discussed the provisions of the new law with representatives of the lawyers’ community from Moldova. This was a useful and necessary discussion, given that some of the amendments proposed triggered disagreements between the representatives of the profession - a natural fact in a democratic society,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The head of state noted that she had ruled to promulgate a new version of the law, after she listened to opinions for and against this version and took note of the potential risks, as well as benefits of the law. ‘’This is a law which is to settle some problems from the legal profession’s system. At the same time, we will ask the new parliament to revise certain provisions which create controversies, such as the ones dealing with the accession to the profession of lawyer,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.
