Moldovan president discusses with 27 EU member states' ambassadors accredited in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - The combating of the Covid-19 pandemic in Moldova, correct organization of the snap parliamentary elections and the economic recovery of Moldova were the subjects discussed by President Maia Sandu with those 27 ambassadors of the European Union member states accredited in Chisinau today. The discussion took place in videoconference format and was moderated by Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova Peter Michalko, the presidential press service has reported.      

„I thanked the European partners for the generous and quick support which we enjoyed in the fight against the pandemic and which helped us better prepare the medical system for the crisis’ management, save lives and launch, in a short time, the national vaccination campaign. The most recent example in this respect is Germany’s donation worth about ten million euros, delivered just today,’’ Maia Sandu said.  

The head of state and the ambassadors discussed the plan on Moldova’s economic recovery worth 600 million euros, announced by the European Commission last week. ‘’These are important funds, which will contribute to the stabilization of the country’s economy; therefore, we will do our utmost to access them and turn them too good account. For this, we must firmly advance in the reformation of justice and in combating corruption. On this occasion, I informed the EU Ambassadors about the concept of the Anticorruption Independent Consultative Committee, launched three days ago,’’ President Maia Sandu noted.   

The head of the diplomatic missions showed interest in the carrying out of the campaign for the snap elections due on 11 July. More EU member states gave assurances to the Moldovan president that they would back the organization of the voting of the Moldovan citizens who live abroad. At the same time, the European observers at the elections will keep an eye for the people to be able to freely vote also at home, in Moldova, and for the ballot to be free and fair.
