Joint Control Commission holds meeting

Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Joint Control Commission (JCC) held a meeting in Bender today.   

The Reintegration Policies Bureau has informed that the sides continued discussions started at the previous meeting by Moldova’s delegation on the presence of the so-called ‘’border guards’’ in the Security Zone under the aspect of the danger created by them to the free movement and other fundamental rights of the citizens.  

It is worth mentioning that, under a document spread on 27 May this year, Moldova’s delegation asked for the support of representatives of Russia, Ukraine and OSCE Mission to resume the consideration of this issue, objectively assess the situation and remove from the Security Zone all structures non-assigned to the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.  

Tiraspol’s representatives refused to include this subject on the agenda and presented a written answer to the addressing from 27 May by Chisinau’s delegation, trying to procrastinate the taking of a decision by the Commission.

Nevertheless, Moldova’s delegation will submit the issue on the agenda of the next meetings of the Joint Control Commission, in order to prompt the removing of the ‘’border guards’’ and jolt Tiraspol’s intentions to set a ‘’border’’ in the Security Zone.   

As for the other up-to-date subjects, it is worth to be mentioned the approval of the report by the Joint Military Command on the situation in the Security Zone on 2-8 June 2021, as well as of another eight reports for earlier periods.     

At a request by the Moldovan side, JCC confirmed a new military observer to office.

In the context of the snap parliamentary elections due on 11 July 2021, Moldova’s delegation informed the other components of the Joint Control Commission about a 5 June 2021 decision by the Central Electoral Commission on organizing polling stations in settlements of the Security Zone for the voters from the Transnistrian region.

In this respect, Moldova’s delegation appealed to the JCC co-heads and other representatives not to allow actions which might jeopardize the good carrying out of the electoral process. The call was made, in order to ensure proper conditions for the work of the electoral civil servants and observers accredited, as well as for the citizens’ free participation in the voting. The discussion of these aspects will continue at the level of the working group for the activity of the law-enforcement bodies, which work within the Joint Control Commission.
