Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Supreme Council of Magistracy (CSM) returns to the previous numerical composition, i.e. 12 persons.
The Constitutional Court (CCM) on 10 June declared unconstitutional the provisions of the law on CSM in the part dealing with the procedure of selection by the parliament of the titular professors of law, more exactly the increase in the number of members from 12 to 15. ‘’The provisions of the law on CSM No 47 from 19 July 1996 in the previous version of the No 193 are revived,’’ reads the ruling of the constitutional judges.
Thus, CCM cancelled the parliament decision, according to which Elena Belei, Carolina Ciugureanu-Mihăiluță, Valentina Coptileț and Ion Crețu were appointed to the office of member of the Supreme Council of Magistracy.
According to the magistrates, the way the law was amended represented an interference of the legislative power with the work of the judicial power.
