Moldovan parliament speaker discusses with members of pre-election mission of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe

Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii today had a meeting with the pre-election mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), on a working visit to Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.   .

Attending the meeting were Deputy Parliament Speaker, PACE Deputy President, the head of Moldova’s Delegation to this organization Vlad Batrincea.

The delegation of the PACE pre-election mission is made up of officials Stefan Schennach, Laima Liucija Andrikiene, Jacques Le Nay, Alberto Ribolla, the co-rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee, Pierre-Alain Fridez. Attending the event was also Head of the Council of Europe’s Office in Chisinau William Massolin.   

The sides discussed topical subjects on the preparation and carrying out of the 11 July snap parliamentary elections safely and fairly.   

On behalf of the parliament, Speaker Zinaida Greceanii welcomed the presence of the delegation in Moldova and thanked for willingness to hold enlarged discussions on the political situation in Moldova before the parliamentary polls.  

In the context, Zinaida Greceanii stressed the importance that all electoral contenders promote a fair campaign and that their treatment is fair and equidistant.  

Vlad Batrincea highlighted that the visit by the PACE pre-election mission was quite welcome, as it gives the delegation members possibility to collect facts about the realities from Moldova on the spot, from the first source, which is important for drawing objective and productive conclusions.   

The mission members today will have meetings with representatives of all factions and groups of the parliament of the tenth legislative period.
