National Bank of Moldova, National Bank of Romania sign new cooperation agreement

Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) deepens its cooperation with the National Bank of Romania (BNR) in sectors dealing with licencing, supervision and procurement of bank shares, in financial conglomerates, payment services and issuance of electronic money.
In this respect, BNM today signed a new agreement on cooperation with BNR.
According to BNM Governor Octavian Armasu, the document is meant to replace the one from 27 July 2001 and is the most comprehensive cooperation agreement ever signed by the central bank of Moldova. ‘’The National Bank of Romania remains one of the most important development partners for the National Bank of Moldova. We want to turn to good account the potential of these relations as efficiently as possible, for the successful implementation of the reforms in the financial and banking system,’’ Armasu said.
The document signed today will emphasize the priorities in the financial and banking sector, adapted to more extended objectives and supports the actions of the National Bank of Moldova which regard the implementation of the Association Agreement. ‘’We will cooperate in fields concerning the licencing, supervision and procurements of bank shares, will collaborate in financial conglomerates, payment services and issuance of electronic money,’’ the Moldovan official also said.
For his part, Governor of the National Bank of Romania Mugur Isarescu said that the new cooperation agreement was meant to extend and develop the cooperation in fields of mutual interest, for an as good as possible work of the financial and banking systems from the two countries. ‘’We extend the cooperation in the sector of strengthening the institutional capacities, in the sphere of supervising and managing crisis situations and we continue the good cooperation in the field of prices’ stability and the macro-financial one,’’ Isarescu said.
According to the Romanian official, the partnership of the central banks from the two countries is ‘’robust and sustainable.’’ ‘’This is a partnership which unequivocally brings Moldova’s rapprochement with the European Union,’’ said the governor of the National Bank of Romania.
The new document proposes a more profound approach in the assertion of both sides’ efforts for developing the financial and banking systems according to the European standards. This regards a wide spectrum of sectors, including: licencing and supervising banks; licencing and supervising the providers of payment services and the issuers of electronic money; infrastructures of the financial market; prevention and combating of money laundering and financing terrorism; cash operations; management of crisis situations, etc. Also, BNM and BNR will be able to cooperate in other fields of mutual interest, when such cooperation is necessary and possible for the exercising of the duties of the two authorities.
