Bad weather hits 65 ha of agricultural crops in west Moldova district

Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) informs that damages have been recorded in more districts of Moldova in the wake of heavy rains on 14-15; the worst hit district is the western Ungheni.
In this district, 65 hectares of agricultural crops were destroyed by the bad weather and 30 settlements were disconnected from power supply because of the rains.
According to data put out by Moldovan rescuers, the rain and hail devastated 4.6 hectares of plum orchards, 29.4 hectares of maize and 30 hectares of sunflower in the Manoilesti settlement, Ungheni district. Damages were registered in the Cazangic settlement, southern Leova district. In this village, the heavy rains destroyed four hectares of water melon and 1.3 hectares of sunflower.
In northern Moldova, the rains and hail affected about 2.7 hectares of apple orchards in the Septelici village, Soroca district and in the Balanul Nou settlement, Rascani district, the hail destroyed about 8 hectares of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
On 15 June, because of the unfriendly climate conditions, electric energy providers reported partial disconnections from power supply in 30 settlements from 12 districts, among which Dubasari, Criuleni, Orhei, Ialoveni, Causeni, Cahul, Soroca. Data received by the Inspectorate shows that, on 16 June, by 6:00, all settlements were re-connected to power supply.
Meteorologists inform that the torrential rains will continue in Moldova till 22 June.
