Development project financed by European Union launched in northern Edinet city

Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - ”Edinet – promising city” is the title of a project financed by the European Union, launched in this settlement today. The programme will be implemented by the Edinet mayoralty, in partnership with the Alba Iulia municipality, Romania.
“Edinet has a big potential to become a modern city, where the residents will enjoy better conditions for living and work, as well as arranged urban spaces to spend the free time in a pleasant environment. The project will back the enterprises from the settlement, in order to create new jobs, will develop urban spaces, such as streets and parks, and will also provide support to buy ecologically safe transport. Team Europe, i.e. EU and the partners from the member states, come to Edinet to contribute to the improvement of the citizens’ living,’’ Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Peter Michalko said at the event on the project’s launch.
For his part, the Edinet mayor, Constantin Cojocaru, said that ‘’EU remains the principal partner of Moldova and for Edinet, in particular.’’ ‘’It is good for us to be aware of this fact. It would be in accordance with the European values and to edify Europe at home in Moldova remains a desideratum for us. We appreciate the involvement and good practices of the colleagues from this space for the promotion of the true social and human values. Respect for the Romanian partners, respect for EU,’’ Cojocaru stressed.
The goal of the Edinet – promising city project, which is to be implemented during 2021-2025, is to improve the quality of the urban development, public services and, in general, the living conditions of the citizens from the city, by applying intelligent solutions in more sectors of urban development.
The project’s budget is about 4.4 million euros, of which 4.1 million euros is an EU grant through the programme, Local Authorities: partnerships for sustainable cities 2020, and the rest – the contribution of the implementation partners.
