Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has informed about a hydrological warning of increase in the Dniester river’s water level for 18-21 June.
According to the SHS hydrologists, the forecast is in connection with the increase in the overflow of water from the Dnestrovsk Reservoir (Dniester river) up to 400 cubic metres per second.
„The hydrological centre forecasts the increase in the water level on the segment Soroca city – Camenca town by 0.4-1.2 metres against the level from 18 June. The water will flow within the limits of the minor river bed,’’ the Hydrometeorological Service said.
According to the institution’s specialists, the June months is characterized by the occurring of frequent high floods for Moldova’s rivers and water flows. The number of high floods caused by rains increases by 50- 200 per cent in June against May.
“The great danger of occurring of high floods triggered by rains is posed by the segment of the Prut river upstream the Costesti-Stanca reservoir. Downstream, the segment is protected by the Costesti-Stanca reservoir, with seasonal regulation. Also, a major risk represents water flows on slopes with local sub-floods and quick floods. The Dniester river’s regime is regulated by the Dnestrovsk and Dubasari reservoirs,’’ SHS added.
In the context, the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry warns that ‘’the local public administration, economic agents, in the subordination of which there are reservoirs, should pay attention to the state of dams, bridges and water evacuation ways.’’
