Moldovan president hands national flag to Moldova's sportspeople due to participate in Tokyo Olympic Games

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu met the members of Moldova’s delegation to the Tokyo Olympic Games at the Presidency today, the presidential press service has reported. 

The head of state wished those 18 sportspeople qualified so far for the Olympic Games a safe journey and much success in the forthcoming acerb competition. Also, the Moldovan president handed the sportspeople the National Flag of Moldova, which they should bear with dignity in this both difficult and noble mission.     

„The Olympic Games represent a matter about friendship and peace, as well as hard work, through which the dream to compete under the Olympic banner becomes reality. During those 30 years of independence, Moldova has repeatedly witnessed the feeling of pride, due to the victories gained by Moldovan sportspeople. I am fully confident that they will bring us happiness this time as well, doing their utmost to achieve the performance they are striving for.    

We, thousands of kilometers far from the event, will be by their side. We will encourage them to fight and will be waiting for them to return home victorious, with new professional experiences and new achievements,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The 32nd issue of the Olympic Games will take place on the period 23 July – 8 August. Moldova has got qualifications for six sports events for the time being. So far, the country has participated in seven editions of the Summer Olympic Games.
