Main reason for deaths recorded represent diseases of circulatory system in Moldova in 2020

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ - The general death rate stood at 15.4 per cent in 2020, which is by 1.8 percentage points more against 2019.  

The National Statistics Bureau (BNS) unveiled data on the general death rate in 2020; thus, according to data by the Public Services Agency, the number of deaths was 40,656 last year, which is by 4,245 more against 2019.  

According to data by the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), the main reasons for the death were the diseases of the circulatory system. The structure of the mortality according to the main classes of the reasons for death is presented as follows: 56.3 per cent of the deaths registered were triggered by diseases of the circulatory system; 14.6 per cent – malignant tumours, 7.7 per cent – diseases of the digestive apparatus, 4.8 per cent – accidents, intoxications and injuries, 4 per cent – diseases of the respiratory apparatus and 12.6 per cent – other reasons.      

Statisticians say that the structure of the reasons for death is different for men and women. The mortality of women because of the diseases of the circulatory system is by 12.4 per cent higher against the one recorded for men.

The death rate according to the principal classes of the reasons for death significantly differs also in terms of areas. A higher share of deaths triggered by diseases of the circulatory system was registered in northern Moldova (60.3 per cent of the people who died in the region). The highest share of deaths caused by malignant tumours was recorded in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (17.3 per cent) and Chisinau municipality (16.4 per cent).
