Moldova launched plastic free campaign

Chisinau, 5 July /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has joined global movement - Plastic Free July 2021 and today launched -I feel fantastic without plastic campaign. The event took place at a thematic conference, where the most current issues in the field were discussed.
The campaign aims is to publicize and promote good practices in the fight against plastic waste. In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) urges citizens and civil society to join forces to reduce plastic in everyday activities.
"Reducing plastic waste is a complex priority for state authorities. The basic concern of national environmental bodies is to lay the foundations for a new plastics economy, to transform social trends by promoting sustainability and to identify smart solutions for recycling and recovery of plastic waste, as recycled materials replace new materials, and the need to extract or produce new raw materials will be reduced, as well as the negative impact on ecosystems will be minimized ", MADRM department head Svetlana Bolocan said.
The campaign will be held in July-September 2021 and will include various activities and contests, meant to raise public awareness of the rational and fair consumption of plastic products, benefits of separate collection, impact of plastic articles on health, and transition to a circular and sustainable economy.
The event is organized with the financial support of the European Union, by the Association for Waste Recovery in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.
According to statistics, the amount of plastic increases significantly from one year to another. The volume of plastic recorded in the last decade exceeds that produced in a century. In 2019 alone, 465 million tons of plastic were produced, up by 30% than in 2018. Developing countries, such as the Republic of Moldova, despite the legal instruments developed face difficulties in organizing an efficient management system of waste.
