Moldovan acting PM receives mission for observation of snap parliamentary elections on behalf of Commonwealth of Independent States

Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with the mission of observers on behalf of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for monitoring the snap parliamentary elections due on 11 July 2021. The foreign delegation was led by Secretary General of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly Council Dmitry Kobitsky, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Acting PM Aureliu Ciocoi welcomed the members of the observation mission in Chisinau, noting that it was in Moldova’s interest for the electoral process to be monitored by as many international monitoring missions as possible. ‘’For us, it is important that the international observers assess the organization and holding of the electoral exercise freely and transparently, as well as in line with the democratic principles,’’ Aureliu Ciocoi said.
At the same time, the acting prime minister assured that the government would fulfill its financial duties to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) as to the earmarking of the left sum of 22.468 million lei needed for the organization and carrying out of the snap parliamentary elections. ‘’We will do our utmost to allocate the necessary financial means to CEC, either on the day of elections or after. Yet, there is no doubt that the money will be transferred to the Central Electoral Commission.’’
The head of the delegation, Dmitry Kobitsky, highlighted the good organization of the former ballots in Moldova and voiced confidence that these elections would be held at the level of the democratic standards. The official noted that the CIS Mission included over 130 experts delegated to Moldova, in order to monitor the polls. The mission will issue its conclusion on the organization and march of the electoral exercise after 11 July.
In another context, the sides emphasized the potential of development of the social and economic relations between Moldova and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The acting PM spoke out for boosting the cooperation in the fields of commerce, economy, transport, agriculture, as well as in the humanitarian sector.
