Voter turnout stands at 43.7 per cent in Moldova till 19:00

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - The snap parliamentary elections are held with no major infringements of the electoral legislation.
At a news briefing, the head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Dorin Cimil, said that the ‘’electoral process unfolds calmly, without major infringements of the electoral legislation.’’ ‘’As many as 1,138,800 citizens voted till 19:00; the rate of participation in the voting is of 43.7 per cent. The electoral process is held calmly, with no major infringements, at all polling stations,’’ Cimil noted.
At the same time, the official said that a high level of participation of Moldovan citizens in the voting was recorded abroad, with the number of ballot papers used exceeding 2,000 at 26 polling stations. ‘’By 19:00, more than 175,000 Moldovan citizens with residence abroad who participated in the voting were registered. The most active ones are in Paris, London, Bologna and Berlin,’’ Cimil stressed.
Also, the CEC head specified that people with ages between 56 and 70 years were the most active inside Moldova. ‘’Over 397,000 citizens of this category participated in the voting,’’ Dorin Cimil said.
The official added that over 30,000 citizens had voted at those 41 polling stations opened for the Moldovan citizens with residence in the Transnistrian region.
According to information unveiled by the General Police Inspectorate, over 100 cases of alleged infringement of the legislation were registered till 16:00. These cases relate to electoral posting, electoral agitation actions, carriage and reasonable suspicion of corrupting voters, certain incidents with ballot papers and even the hindering of the exercising of the right to vote. Some of these cases did not confirm; in other ones, activities of accumulation and administering of evidence are carried out to find out the existence/inexistence of the deeds notified.
The voter turnout registered at 19:00 stood at 46 per cent at the parliamentary elections from 24 February 2019.
