Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The acting government, at a today’s meeting, ruled to allocate additional financial means to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) for the holding of the 11 July snap parliamentary elections.
„The Finance Ministry will earmark financial means worth 22 million 468,000 lei from the government’s reserve fund to the Central Electoral Commission for the organization and carrying out of the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for 11 July 2021,’’ the cabinet decision reads. Also, the Finance Ministry will provide the financing of the aforementioned spending, as the payment documents are submitted.
The current decision enters into force on the date of its publication in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
CEC has earlier asked the government to provide another 22 million lei for the holding of the 11 July snap parliamentary elections. In last May, the central electoral authority demanded a sum of 125 million lei for the organization of the 11 July ballot. At that time, the cabinet allocated 70 million lei; yet, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi said that, ‘’if the sum earmarked proves to be insufficient, the cabinet will look for new financial possibilities, in order to support the needs of the Central Electoral Commission.’’
