Moldovan government earmarks outstanding sum of 22.5 million lei for organization of snap parliamentary elections

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The government has allocated additional financial means worth 22.468 million lei to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) for the expenses borne for the organization and carrying out of the 11 July 2021 snap parliamentary elections. The decision was approved at a cabinet meeting today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

Thus, the government covered the expenditures for the organization and holding of the ballot. After the polls, the cabinet repeatedly asked CEC to establish the exact sum of the financial means needed additionally. Therefore, CEC reconfirmed the equivalent of 22.468 million lei necessary. The means will be used for the payment of the allowances to the electoral civil servants. ‘’By this, we have fulfilled the commitments to the Central Electoral Commission that there will be money spent for the organization and carrying out of the ballot and so it is transferred to CEC’s account,’’ the acting PM said.    

It is worth mentioning that, in order to ensure a good organization and holding of the snap parliamentary elections, on 12 May 2021, the government approved the earmarking of 70 million lei from its reserve fund. Thus, 92.468 million lei was allocated from the government’s Reserve Fund for the organization of the 11 July elections. It is worth being mentioned that no allocations were approved in the 2021 state budget law for the organization of snap parliamentary elections.   

CEC opened 2,150 polling stations for the carrying out of the 11 July 2021 ballot, of which 150 abroad and 41 for the settlements from the left bank of Dniester.
