Agrarian University of Moldova modernizes its laboratories with EU's support

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The State Agrarian University of Moldova (UASM), through the project Moldova’s Orchard, benefits from financing worth two million euros. The money is invested in the renovation and endowment of three laboratories of the institution, a mechanization shed, as well as the repair of an amphitheatre.   

The works have carried out at the level of 60 per cent. Once the modernization process over, the students will enjoy better conditions for education during practical classes, having access to a wide range of analyses and researches, able to be carried out in the sector.   

„The horticulture laboratory and the one of analysis of soil have been already endowed with furniture and equipment demanded. It remains for us to repair the lecture rooms and laboratory of the Agrarian Engineering and Motor Transport Faculty. Practically, endowments of such a level were made at the faculty, at the university very many years ago,’’ the dean of the Agrarian University’s Horticulture Faculty, Gheorghe Nicolaescu, said.       

„What we want is to give a helping hand to improving the conditions of education in the horticulture sector, so that they meet the European standards. Thus, the present students and future specialists will contribute to the creation of an advanced horticultural sector, based on innovation,’’ the head of the office of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Chisinau, Alberto Carlei, said.    

So far, within the EIB’s Moldova’s Orchard project, ten education institutions which train specialists in the horticulture sector have benefited from financing worth 11.4 million euros.   

Moldova’s Orchard project is a credit line worth 120 million euros, meant for investments for small and medium-sized enterprises from the horticulture sector. Ten per cent of this sum, i.e. 12 million euros, is provided for public investments of Moldova’s government in education and research for the development and strengthening of the horticulture sector. The financing contract between EIB and the government was signed in July 2014 and the project was officially launched in July 2016.
