Chisinau, 15 July /MOLDPRES/ - The National Police have received 20 sets of alcohol testing devices worth 80,000 euros on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior. The devices are meant for combating the consumption of alcohol among drivers.
At an official ceremony on the donation’s delivery, the deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Marin Maxian, said that all sets were to reach the police inspectorates from Moldova.
„The alcohol remains a major problem for Moldova and the police must take all possible measures to reduce this phenomenon. The traffic accidents of the last period, which resulted in serious consequences, are due, to a great extent, to the consumption of alcohol at wheel. In this respect, the devices will enhance our efforts to ensure a safety climate in the community,’’ Maxian said.
The devices received today can be used not only in documenting traffic incidents, but also in the process of documenting other categories of offences or contraventions, such as the domestic violence, hooliganism, bodily injuries, serving as support for taking decisions.
The procedure of purchasing the devices was carried out with the financial support of foreign partners, within the Police Development Strategy for 2016-2020.
