Moldovan capital's city hall to monitor public transport by electronic means

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) has accepted a donation of a GIS monitoring system on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova.
The acting head of the public transport and communication ways general department, Vitalie Mihalache, today asked the councilors to approve this donation, as the equipment will allow recording the car parks from Chisinau, as well as ‘’monitoring the entire public transport.’’ ‘’The computerized programme will allow visualizing all which is available on the roads’ sector in Chisinau, including the street furniture,’’ the official said. According to Mihalache, the system will be developed under the aspect of record and monitoring of the transport public, which will be integrated on the same electronic system, which will be accessible for everybody. The project was backed by 38 out of the 51 municipal councilors.
GIS is the acronym coming from the Geographic Information System. This system is used, in order to create, stock, analyze and process information distributed in space through a computerized process. Due to the information associated with the graphic, GIS benefits from all opportunities of interrogation provided by the systems of databases and can easily provide analyses.
The GIS technology can be used in diverse scientific sectors, such as: resources management, studies of impact on environment, map making or planning vehicles’ routes, etc.
