Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office orders detaining of leader of Building Europe at Home Party

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - The detaining of the leader of the Building Europe at Home Party (PACE), Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, was ordered to present the charge in the file on the ‘’brilliant green’’, under an ordinance by the prosecutor of the central Sangerei district.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), Cavcaliuc’s request on the withdrawal of the ‘’brilliant green’’ file from the management of the Sangerei prosecutor’s office was turned down, about which he was informed on 13 July 2021.

The decision was taken after the consideration of the claimant’s arguments, in which he invoked the obviously tendentious, non-objective and biased character of the criminal prosecution activity carried out by prosecutors at the Sangerei district prosecutor’s office. Cavcaliuc demanded the prosecutors’ challenge and sending the file to another criminal prosecution body or specialized prosecutor’s office for the further carrying out of the investigations.

Therefore, PG found out lack of circumstances envisaged in the criminal procedure code, which would reasonably doubt the impartiality of the prosecutors from Sangerei, for which reason the claimant’s demand was rejected.

Thus, being repeatedly summoned at the Sangerei prosecutor’s office for today in order to be charged, Cavcaliuc did not come and his lawyers said he was on leave. As a result, taking to account that the accused man refused to voluntarily come after a legal summons, under an ordinance by the prosecutor of the Sangerei district, his detaining was ordered for presenting the charge.

Cavcaliuc is charged with ‘’hooliganism committed by two or more people’’ and ‘’call to commit acts of violence against people’’ and, along with the other four of his fellows, he is to bear responsibility under the law. The legislation sees fine or imprisonment of up to five years for these actions.

On 6 April 2021, more PACE members sprinkled brilliant green on the deputy head of the Sangerei district, who needed hospitalization in the wake of the injuries got.
