Mural painting dedicated to gender equality unveiled in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - A mural painting dedicated to gender equality has been inaugurated at the Moldovan Technical University (UTM), with the support of UN Women Moldova.  

Attending the inauguration event were UTM Rector Viorel Bostan, Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Anna Lyberg and Ambassador of France to Moldova Pascal Le Deunff.  

„The issue of gender equality is important and topical at present, especially in the context of the technical education, where we always felt the stereotype that girls should study at specialties regarded as feminine, such as technology of food and boys must study at the machine building industry. This is false and our goal is to combat this falsehood, as there are no borders between genders and these stereotypes should be combated,’’ Bostan said.     

Swedish diplomat Anna Lyberg said that, on the last period, more and more countries had been recognizing the power of art and culture in the promotion of human rights. ‘’Through creation, one can contribute both to raising the awareness of the public opinion and catalyzing collective actions, in order to achieve decisive results in the gender equality field,’’ Lyberg noted.  

Titled, Time is High for Equality Now, the mural painting, made by Anastasia Provozin, shows a world where the gender equality was achieved, where everyone can get anything he/she wants, no matter the gender, ethnic affiliation or sexual orientation. This is the second mural painting launched by UN Women Moldova. The first one was inaugurated in December 2020 and was dedicated to solidarity in combating the violence against women.    

The initiative of making the mural painting belongs to UN Women Moldova and was implemented with the financial support of Sweden, in cooperation with the Moldovan Technical University and with the backing of the Embassy of France in Chisinau.
