Moldovan president presents her foreign policy priorities

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today presented the priorities of her foreign policy for the next years, at a meeting with the diplomatic corps, held at the headquarters of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), the presidential press service has reported.   

Under the document, Moldova’s foreign policy must be predictable and consistent, be oriented to citizens and contribute to multilateral solutions and to a regional environment without conflicts, safe and peaceful. These are the priorities of the presidential institution’s foreign policy for the 2021 and 2022 years.

The foreign policy work will be carried out in five principal directions:

Overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and improving the situation in the public health sector, through ensuring the country’s vaccination needs and attracting assistance for the health sector;   

Backing the economic recovery through attracting funds for strengthening the macro-economic stability and supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises and attracting investments;  

Combating corruption and promoting the rule of law state through cooperation with international partners for the recovery of the assets from abroad of the corrupt civil servants, officials and business people;

Supporting the regional security and an environment without conflicts through maintaining good-neighbour relations with Romania, Ukraine and other states with security interests in the region, as well as through the consolidation of the security and defence institutions; and  

Assuming an active role globally – a long-term commitment, which regards a more active involvement of Moldova in identifying solutions to regional and global problems of environment, security and development.

„We have now more openness on behalf of our foreign partners, but we must work hard, in order to turn it to good account and put it in the service of the people. We cannot miss this occasion,’’ President Maia Sandu said while presenting the document.  

It is worth mentioning that, under the Constitution, Moldova’s President represents the state in the relations with other countries at the highest level and fulfills his/her powers in the field of foreign policy in cooperation with the parliament and government.
