Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan Technical University (UTM) has benefited from financing worth two million euros, invested in the modernization of ten laboratories from the institution. The money was provided by the European Union, through the European Investment bank (EIB), within the project, Moldova’s Orchard, which backs the education and research in the horticultural sector.

Presently, students of the Faculty of Food Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical, Industrial Engineering and Transports have at their disposal equipment, which provides them an optimal framework for education, developing their aptitudes during practical classes, as well as research at the specialty.

„This is a benefit for the students, for teachers, for our researchers, for industry, in general. This equipment allows students to turn it to good account and improve the education, facilitates the cooperation with the business environment through joint projects, etc.,’’ the UTM pro-rector, Vladislav Resitca, said.

Furniture for five laboratories, glass article, as well as equipment and chemical reagents for six laboratories were bought through the financing made available by the European Investment Bank. A part of the two million euros was meant for the thermal insulation, through the change of windows of the Food Technology Faculty. At the same time, the amphitheatre of the same faculty was repaired.

„The investments in infrastructure, modern laboratories and equipment are extremely important for training good specialists, who are to implement new technologies and contribute to the development of the horticultural sector. This is, in fact, an investment in the future of this sector,’’ the head of the EIB office in Moldova, Alberto Carlei, said.

Ten education institutions training specialists in the horticultural sector have benefited from financing worth about 11.4 million euros within Moldova’s Orchard project of the European Investment Bank so far.

Moldova’s Orchard project is a credit line worth 120 million euros, meant for investments for small and medium-sized enterprises from the horticulture sector. Ten per cent of this sum, i.e. 12 million euros, is provided for public investments of Moldova’s government in education and research for the development and strengthening of the horticulture sector. The financing contract between EIB and the government was signed in July 2014 and the project was officially launched in July 2016.   Moldova’s Orchard project is a credit line worth 120 million euros.
