Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - A physician from the Comrat (Gagauz autonomy) district hospital has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment with suspension for the infringement, through an oversight, of the rules and ways of providing medical assistance, which resulted in the death of a child. The physician was also deprived of the right to hold positions in the medicine sector during three years.
The prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia UTA Gagauzia) proved by evidence that, in June 2018, as doctor on duty, the man did not ensure the proper examination and refused the hospitalization of a five-year-old child, who was carried with an acute viral respiratory infection. As a result, the child died.
A criminal file was opened on this case and prosecutors ordered the carrying out of more forensic examinations, which highlighted the guilt of the physician. The conclusion was that the death of the boy could have been avoided, if he received the treatment immediately. After being heard, the 45-year-old man pleaded not guilty.
The sentence is not final and can be appealed in the way established by the law.
