Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Romanian authorities have ruled to provide 300,000 euros for backing the civil society and the free media from Moldova. Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu made statements to this effect after a today’s meeting with President Maia Sandu.
According to Aurescu, the money is part of a voluntary contribution on behalf of Romania, through the European Endowment for Democracy (EED), in order to implement projects for supporting the civil society and independent media from Moldova. The financial assistance comes as a continuation of a similar voluntary contribution worth 250,000 euros, provided in last November.
„I am happy that I am the first EU official to come to Chisinau after the historical result of the 11 July elections. The citizens proved democratic maturity and the fact that they want strong institutions, that they support the reforms promoted by Maia Sandu. We are happy to see that the citizens’ option is for EU and we are confident in the programme of reforms initiated. We will be further by the side of Maia Sandu and the government which will start its work,’’ Aurescu said.
Foreign Affairs Minister of Romania Bogdan Aurescu is on an official visit to Chisinau. The Bucharest official will participate in a ceremony on donation of a consignment of 100,000 doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine on behalf of Romania.
