Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today gave a speech at the foundation meeting of the parliament of the 11th legislative period. She declared zero tolerance to the corruption and urged the lawmakers to work honestly for the implementation of the reforms.
“The Republic of Moldova marks its 30th anniversary soon. After so many failures, as late as now, after 30 years, let us edify a state for people, for all citizens, not for cliques who took advantage of people’s trust to gather unmerited wealth and to subordinate the state to their own interests. Time is ripe for a true revolution in the way the country is governed, with the citizen put in the focus of the government’s effort and with politicians and institutions serving the public interest,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The head of state stressed that, starting the first day of the new parliament’s work, she declared zero tolerance to corruption, at any level and in any institution.
“The verification of the integrity musty start from the leaders of the institutions, as many of them tolerated or even were authors of numerous corruption schemes, through which they collected bribes from citizens or stole the state’s money. The corrupt and compromised leaders must be replaced by honest people, established in offices based on competence according to clear-cut rules, which should be elaborated on the next period. In the fight against corruption, the legislative body has a very important role. The parliament is obliged to adopt clear laws for the prevention and combating of corruption. The new legislative body must urgently correct the laws earlier concocted, which legalized the corruption schemes. We have a simple message for the corrupt and compromised people: do not try to put up resistance; you cannot hide behind words about the independence of justice, when you have been serving thieves for years. We will do what the people demand. I also have a message for the honest and professional people from the justice sector: continue to do your job just as you learned, without fear and with courage to speak when you see irregularities,’’ Sandu also said.
The Moldovan president noted that each official or civil servant must have a clear answer at the end of each day: what I have done for people today?
“In my capacity of President, I demand more responsibility in the public service, more involvement and more efficiency. I also call on the good professionals from the country and the Diaspora to come to the public sector and provide expertise, in order to enhance the performance and the administrative capacity. The old system will not defeat us – we know that the struggle in the administration is to be led and to be won each day,’’ Maia Sandu added.
Immediately after the speech given by the head of state, the acting president of the Action and Solidarity Party, Igor Grosu, asked for a break, noting that the lawmakers would return at a meeting on 29 July.
