Romania transfers 300,000 euros for consolidation of civil society, mass media from Moldova

Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) of Romania has informed that it already transferred the sum of 300,000 euros for the consolidation of the civil society and mass media from Moldova. The financial assistance was provided in line with the package of support on behalf of Romania for Moldova’s citizens, announced by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in Chisinau on 29 December 2020.
According to the quoted source, this contribution is provided from the Fund for Democratization and Sustainable Development for Moldova, included in the annual plan on international cooperation for development and humanitarian assistance related to the 2021 year.
The Bucharest MAE thus reconfirms the support provided by Romania for the development of the civil society and independent media in Moldova, through promoting the implementation of projects in these key sectors for the democratic reform, in accordance with the values which guide the European integration process. At the same time, through this measure, the competent authorities reiterate Romania’s firm commitment to back Moldova’s European integration, including through official assistance for development actions and in line with the bilateral Strategic Partnership for Moldova’s European Integration.
“Moldova represents the main beneficiary of the official assistance for development and humanitarian aid provided by Romania bilaterally, an approach reconfirmed through the strategic multiannual plan on international cooperation for development and humanitarian assistance on the period 2020-2023, approved by Romania’s government in November 2020,’’ reads the press release issued by the Romanian authorities.
