35% of all SMEs operated in trade

Chisinau, 3 August /MOLDPRES/- The National Statistics Bureau presented data on the activity of small and medium enterprises in the Republic of Moldova in 2020. According to statisticians, the number of SMEs operating last year in our country was 57.2 thousand.

Statisticians found that in the 57.2 thousand enterprises employed a number of 316.8 thousand employees, which means 60.1% of the total employees of enterprises. The sales revenues of SMEs in this period amounted to 150 112.1 million lei or 39.3% of the total sales revenues per economy.

The analysis of SME indicators shows that in 2020: average sales revenues per enterprise amounted to 2,622.2 thousand lei, by 191.5 thousand lei (or 6.8%) less than in 2019; SME sales revenues on average per employee amounted to 473.8 thousand lei, by 5.2 thousand lei (or 1.1%) more than in 2019; the average number of employees on a company in 2020 was less than 6 people.

In 2020, the predominant part of SMEs carried out their activity in the field of trade, constituting 20.5 thousand enterprises, or 35.7% of the total number of SMEs. 4.8 thousand SMEs or 8.5% of their total were active in the manufacturing industry.

According to statisticians, the amount of profit / loss until taxation obtained by SMEs last year amounted to 9,050.9 million lei, decreasing by 3,335.1 million lei compared to 2018.
