Prosecutors filed for arrest for 18 people detained in IPOT case

Chisinau, 11 August /MOLDPRES/- Deputy head together with five other officials from the Design Institute (IPOT), as well as 12 private people, including beneficiaries of some companies were charged in the case initiated for abuse of office, passive corruption, active corruption and trafficking influence.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office filed the accusation against the 18 persons and filed lawsuits with the request for enforcement regarding the 6 employees of IPOT and 2 beneficiaries of some companies of pre-trial detention for 30 days, and regarding other 10 individuals - a house arrest for 30 days. The prosecutors' steps are to be examined today by the Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters.
"The detentions of the accused occur as a result of over 55 searches carried out two days ago at the homes, offices and cars of the persons concerned, as a result of which over 9 thousand euros and 48 thousand lei were seized from IPOT employees, which is presumed to be the result of their criminal activity. Some of the accused persons admitted their guilt, and others made use of their procedural right not to give statements ", indicates the General Prosecutor's Office.
This criminal trial was initiated at the beginning of this year, and according to the evidence, between March and July 2021, IPOT specialists allegedly demanded and received from individuals and beneficiaries of companies amounts between 250 and 2000 euros. In exchange for these sums, the officials diminished the creditworthiness of the soil in the study for the lands owned by the beneficiaries of the pedological investigations, thus prejudicing the budget of the local public administrations in particularly large proportions.
