Chisinau, 12 August /MOLDPRES/- Today President Maia Sandu handed over the Order of Honor to the family members of 134 medical workers, who lost their lives at work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The distinctions were awarded post-mortem, as a sign of homage and gratitude for the courage, devotion and spirit of sacrifice shown by these people, the presidential press service has reported.
"I thanked those present, on behalf of all patients, for the sacrifice made by their parents, brothers and sisters in the fight against the killer virus. Our state was not prepared to face this calamity and did not know how to protect its medical workers. In their memory and in gratitude for their descendants, today's authorities need to make things much better. Invest in the medical system and protect those who are at the forefront when we face difficult situations. We need a responsible state that appreciates their work and courage ", Maia Sandu said.
In this context, the head of state mentioned how important vaccination against Covid-19 is. "We, the citizens, must also protect ourselves and our doctors, and the solution is the vaccine. Only through vaccination will we keep our health and we will help the medical system to cope with the pandemic that is gaining new speeds around the world ", Maia Sandu also said.
