Latvia to provide assistance to Moldova in digitization sector

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova wants to deepen cooperation with the European Union in areas that are less set out in the Association Agreement with the EU, such as environmental protection, digitization and security policies.
Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said today at a joint briefing with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs that beyond the reforms in justice and the fight against corruption, the Moldovan state wants deepen cooperation with the European Union in areas related to environmental protection, digitalisation and security policies.
Edgars Rinkēvičs said that the European Union supports the way of implementing the reforms that the Republic of Moldova has chosen to pursue. "Moldovan citizens wanted change and this was demonstrated by voting, we will support the path chosen by Moldovans who want change in justice and fight against corruption," he said.
At the same time, referring to the deepening of Moldova's Association Agreement with the EU, the Latvian diplomat said that the official documents signed by our country, both the Association Agreement and those signed within the Eastern Partnership, offer opportunities for the Republic of Latvia to provide assistance in digitization. "Digitization is an area in which we can work together on the basis of both the provisions set in the Association Agreement and those in the Eastern Partnership documents," said Edgars Rinkēvičs.
Edgars Rinkēvičs pays a working visit to Chisinau on 16-18 August.
